Who I Work With
You’re chronically unsatisfied
You’re doing everything you’re supposed to do, and your life looks pretty good on the outside. But on the inside, you don’t feel good. The weight of responsibility can be overwhelming at times. You feel restless, keyed up, and like you’re always chasing after the next thing. You wonder why you don’t feel content even though you’ve achieved a lot and can be productive. You are very passionate, but any sort of failure easily discourages you. You don’t have to be held hostage by plans and expectations. Therapy can help.
Change is possible!
You’re an empath
Maybe you’ve been called “sensitive” or told that you should grow thicker skin. You are like an emotional sponge, and you tend to take on the stress of the world. You are a good listener, generous, and naturally nurturing. However, you get your feelings hurt easily, and sometimes people take advantage of you. It seems like energy vampires are drawn to you and leave you emotionally drained. There’s nothing wrong with you. Therapy can help you understand and embrace your empathic gifts.
Let’s work together!
You have some wounds
Life has dished up some hardships: heartbreak, illness, trauma, injury, death, abandonment. Your feelings go beyond “sadness” or “worry.” They are felt in the depths of your being. No matter how hard you try to scrub away your past, it still has an impact on you. Maybe you don’t feel confident or optimistic about life. Or you have a difficult time taking initiative or making decisions. You might feel alone or have a tendency to over-depend on others. Ignoring emotional injuries will make them worse. It’s time to heal, and therapy can help.
The healing can begin. I want to help.
You Are Not a Disorder
You might be seeking therapy because you have been diagnosed with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), or you think you might have it. For the sake of our work together, a diagnosis is usually not relevant. What matters is if symptoms are causing problems in your life.
PTSD symptoms include, but are not limited to, feelings of irritability, angry outbursts, issues with concentration and sleep, anxiety and fear, feelings of detachment from others, flashbacks, and nightmares.
Equally as important as identifying PTSD symptoms is understanding that they are a natural response to overwhelming events. I prefer to view PTSD symptoms as a mental injury, not a mental disorder, or something pathological. This is because post-traumatic stress is a natural reaction to a disturbing event where one may have felt overwhelmed, afraid, or helpless.
If you are having PTSD symptoms, there is nothing "wrong" with you. They are simply a manifestation of how most people would respond.
You didn’t arrive here out of nowhere. EMDR can help.
Millions of moments and decisions developed you into the person you are today. Some experiences enriched your life, and some caused problems. Regardless of the events that got you to this place, are you ready to move on to the next adventure? EMDR therapy can help you get there on your own terms.
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy. It is a therapy model that has been proven to be highly effective for those who have experienced trauma and a myriad of “every day” hardships. EMDR can reduce the distressing emotions and related negative thoughts and beliefs so that your past no longer defines who you are.
